A big ALOHA to all of my Wai'anae students and their 'ohana!

My name is Miss Soriano and I am currently the Kindergarten to 6th-Grade STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Resource Teacher at WaiÊ»anae Elementary School this 2021-2022 school year.  This summer, I taught the 5-week Summer Learning Hub Program which focused on hands-on Engineering Design Challenges.

To give you a little background on my teaching experiences, I graduated with my Bachelors of Education Degree in Elementary (Grades K-6) at University of Hawai'i West O'ahu and graduated with a Masters of Education Degree in Curriculum & Instruction Design with a Dual Concentration in eLearning/Technology and STEM Education at Concordia University, Portland, Oregon.

In my pre-service teaching experiences, I have taught K, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grade at several schools within the Leeward and Central O'ahu districts and also worked as an AVID Paraprofessional for two school years at Ewa Makai Middle School. In January of 2015, I joined the Wai'anae Elementary School community as a 5th-Grade Mathematics and Science Teacher and in the Fall of 2018, I pioneered our schoolÊ»s K-6 STEM program promoting lots of hands-on learning and critical thinking to solve real-world problems.  I have also helped in launching quite a few extracurricular clubs and enrichment after-school programs including STEM Club, Girls on the Run, Malama Club, Seahorse Media Productions, Seahorse Robotics, and CyberSuccess.  I enjoy providing lots of different opportunites for students to have fun, learn, and grow!

I truly love our Wai'anae students, community, staff, and school! I'm looking forward to a great school year with all of you!

"My experiences in the classroom have taught me that every day is different and that I really enjoy watching students learn and grow throughout the school year--academically and in maturity. I chose to become a teacher because I believe in the power of knowledge to transform lives and change situations for the better. Next to parents, I feel that teachers are the most important foundational element in our society."
